On the serious side of things tonight….

I found an article in a little paper The Ledger with the headline “Youth Suicide Epidemic Is Sweeping Across TN”. It caught my attention and I thought it might be good to share some resources. This is an uncomfortable subject, especially for us parents, and with this being so important to our young people and because very few papers are covering this topic, I feel like knowledge is power, so here is what I found.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released new fatal injury data for Tennessee. Suicide is the second leading cause of death for middle and high school aged kids. In fact, (according to the article) we lose a young person (10-24) every 2.7 days in Tennessee alone. I find these number shocking, and quite frankly, pitiful. We should be doing better than this, or at the very least talking about it and sharing resources. That being said, suicide is one of the leading causes of preventable death. Talking about this and reaching out with resources will make a difference.
